Shiny Ditto Available

Since the Season of Mischief, Shiny Ditto has been available. Now you might be wondering:

“What if I encounter a Shiny Pokémon disguised as a Ditto? Isn’t it going to turn in to a Ditto?””

That’s a good question pestering voice in my head. In short, no, it won’t.

If you encounter, for example, a Shiny Lillipup it will NOT turn in to a Ditto. However if you encounter a normal Lillipup, it has a chance of being a Ditto AND being shiny.

Any Pokémon on the Ditto Disguise list can turn in to a Shiny Ditto.

FAQ

How can I find Ditto in Pokémon GO?

Ditto can only be found disguised as another Pokémon. It can hide as any of the Pokémon listed above.

For example, if a Ditto is hiding as a Pidgey, it will appear and act exactly like a Pidgey. The only way to find out if it is actually a Ditto is by catching it. If it is a Ditto, there will be an animation revealing it upon capture.

Note: Pidgey is no longer a Ditto Candidate since I wrote this example but I’m going to keep it as is.

Any hints on finding one?

There isn’t anything physically distinguishing to give away that a Pokémon is a Ditto. However, if a Pokémon, that is typically an easy catch, is giving you a hard time, it could be a Ditto. This is because Ditto has a lower catch rate, but it’ll disguise its catch ring colors with the Pokémon Species it is posing as. This hint isn’t partially helpful though, as you would want to maximize your catch chances when catching a Ditto candidate.

A more practical tip would be to ask other trainers for help. Pokémon disguised as Ditto are the same for all trainers. So if someone sights a wild Ditto, you can encounter and catch the same Ditto.

Is Ditto particularly useful in battle?

In Pokémon GO Ditto isn’t very good in battle. Although it can copy a powerful Pokémon’s Moves, Base stats, and types, it doesn’t copy the HP. As a result, Ditto is very fragile in battle.

Ditto will be a roadblock for many Trainers who are trying to make their way through Special Research tasks. Don’t worry about it too much. It comes out of hiding when you least expect it.
